COURSE SUMMARY

From introduction to advanced training, BJO Formation provides an array of modules on all aspects of the jewellery trade.

  • 1st DAY
    • Introduction to the different types of setting used in jewellery
    • Introduction to the tools
    • Tools preparation and maintenance
  • 2nd DAY
    • How to use setter’s wax
    • Grain or bead setting
    • Grains forming
    • Fitting the gemstone into the metal
  • 3rd and 4th DAY
    • Metal cutting and shaping
    • Line/thread cutting
    • Mill grain setting
    • Bezel setting
    • Handling different stone shapes (oval, pear and round)
    • Seat preparation and Setting with a metal pusher or a hammer hand piece
  • 5th DAY
    • Prong setting : 4 or 6 prong configuration
    • Solitaire or cluster setting
    • Prong setting : flat, round, square or « eagle’s beak » (bec d’aigle) prongs
    • Set piece finish

TEACHING RESOURCES

  • Jewellery workshop fully equipped
  • Equipment, tools and materials provided by the school
  • Training provided by a professional stone setter

TRAINING VALIDATION

  • At the end of the session, each participant will receive a certificate
  • Participants will be able to take home their set piece.
